UNIVERSITY RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT, AND EXTENSION AGENDA (URDEA)

URDEA

The principal thrusts of the Office of Research & Development, and Extension are generally based on research and extension programs that bespoke the socio-economic improvement of the quality of life of the people in the region, believing that it would consequently impact the country’s economic development as well. Inherent in the program are research and extension projects anchored on advancing new knowledge, innovative technology, developing novel skills/competence, and creative product development that can be utilized by the community and used for product commercialization. URDEA abides by the concept and principled practice of putting EVSU into the heart of the community (communiversidad) and employs resources convergence from among agencies with parallel passion.

As per approval of the University Research & Development, and Extension (URDE) Council last March 29, 2022, EVSU adopts the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and one (1) thrust for establishing priorities in developing, processing, and funding research & development and extension programs and projects:

  1. No Poverty;
  2. Zero Hunger;
  3. Good Health and Well-being;
  4. Quality Education;
  5. Gender Equality;
  6. Clean Water and Sanitation;
  7. Affordable and Clean Energy;
  8. Decent Work and Economic Growth;
  9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure;
  10. Reduced Inequality;
  11. Sustainable Cities and Communities;
  12. Responsible Consumption and Production;
  13. Climate Action;

The URDEA also further adopts the AmBisyon Natin 2040, which aims for the lives of Filipinos in 2040 to be (1) Strongly rooted: Matatag; (2) Comfortable: Maginhawa; and (3) Secure: Panatag.

Further, Figure 1 shows the EVSU Research and Development framework. It starts with the four domains representing a researcher’s essential competencies. The four (4) research competencies each researcher should have are career development, research expertise, engagement and impact, and research governance.

Career Development. Researchers should clearly understand their career goals and how their research fits into those goals. They should also be able to develop and maintain a productive research program and manage their professional development.

Research Expertise. Researchers should deeply understand their field’s methods, techniques, and theories. They should also be able to apply this knowledge to their research and the research of others.

Engagement and Impact. Researchers should be able to engage with various stakeholders, including other researchers, policymakers, and the public. They should also be able to communicate the relevance and impact of their research to these groups.

Research Governance. Researchers should be aware of and adhere to ethical and legal standards in their field. They should also be able to navigate the complex regulatory environment in which research is conducted, including issues related to intellectual property, data privacy, and human subjects research.

As we incorporate these domains, EVSU researchers should consider our 18 URDEAs. Each college and external campus also focus on its R&D thrust and expertise. The RDE agenda of the institutional partners, project collaborators, and other client organizations (local or international), as may be determined by the University RDE Council (URDEC), shall likewise form part of the University’s URDEA.
